WRIGHT PETITION, FCC, Docket #96-128 Exploitation should not be a part of a prisoner’s punishment. He is already being punished by individual states for breaking the law. Exploiting a prisoner simply because he is in prison is intolerable. My family member has had to stop calling his mother because she lives in another state. The cost of ONE phone call to her is almost twice the amount of one to me and we are both on fixed incomes. We (the public) have committed no crime and we, too, are being exploited. The FBP has a system whereby it is simpler, easier and less expensive to call family members. The individual states are further penalizing, without benefit of trial, each and every prisoner by allowing kickbacks to those same states.
