The Prison Phone Justice website is the most complete source of information about prison and jail telephone contracts and rates currently in existence. The Human Rights Defense Center began the process of collecting prison phone data on a national level in 2009. In succesive filings before the Federal Communications Commission, only HRDC had the actual data on the costs of prison phone calls, the kickbacks paid to corrections officials and terms of the contracts. Getting this information is not easy and we have a full-time Prison Phone Justice director, David Ganim, who collects this data, makes it publicly available and provides the resources to advocates, regulatory officials and the public. We believe that price-gouging prisoners' families by charging inflated prison and jail phone rates while providing kickbacks to government agencies is one of the great injustices of our time.
We do not receive any government funding and in the past have received very little foundation funding for this project. If you think it is important that we have the facts and data for the Prison Phone Justice Campaign, that this information be publicly available, and that advocates have this information to use in the struggle for affordable prison and justice phone rates, then please make a donation to support the Prison Phone Justice Campaign. In addition to the cost of gathering the data, the campaign incurs travel expenses to meet with regulatory officials about these issues and related expenses. Please consider supporting the Campaign on a recurring basis.
HRDC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and all donations are tax deductable to the extent allowed by the IRS. We provide receipts for all donations over $100.
