Here is the info regarding rates. I'm still working on the trust fund commission/revenue
information but wanted to get this to you now:
Direct Dial (per minute):
.06 Local
.23 Long Distance
Prepaid Collect:
Same as direct dialed with a $1.50 connection fee.
Collect Rates:
Long Distance (Interstate)
2.45 connection fee
.40 per minute
Intrastate rates are capped at 90% of residential rates for each state. This is not tracked as it is controlled
by state regulation.
I will continue to try to get the rest of the info.

Much appreciated. We are most interested in the collect and debit call rates for the ITS,
as well as the commission rate under the Unisys contract.
I am on deadline, but will try to hold off until you can provide the information. Thanks!

Mr. Friedmann,
I'm still working on getting the information for you. So far, the only thing I can say confidently is
that Unisys has the contract for inmate telephone services. I will forward the rest as soon as I
can verify my information.

Dear Mr. Burke,
I'm the associate editor of Prison Legal News (www.prisonlegalnews.org), a monthly publication
that reports on criminal justice issues. We are conducting a survey of inmate phone services, and
are seeking data regarding the BOP's inmate phone system. Specifically, I am seeking the
following (though I understand some of this information may not be readily available):
* The name of the contractor/phone company that operates or manages the ITS (most recent
reports indicate Unisys).
* The phone rates charged for debit and collect calls in the following categories: local, intrastate
and interstate.
* The commission percentage/rate the BOP receives from gross revenue from the ITS, and the
annual dollar amount of commission payments received in 2008/2009.
* Is the ITS the same as TRUFONE? Are the two terms interchangeable?
Please advise if you can assist with these requests; in terms of importance, we are most
interested in the phone rates and the commission percentage. Many thanks, and please contact
me should you have any questions.
